Faculty Advancement and Leadership Development – part of the Office of the Provost, the FALD is committed to strengthening recruitment and retention efforts, enhancing faculty experiences, supporting our faculty members in their professional growth and success, and recognizing faculty contributions

 

Summer Retreat – four-day retreat for early-career faculty to build high-impact skills in research, teaching, and service; designed for full-time appointment stream and tenure stream faculty with research responsibilities 

 

Pitt’s Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) - works directly with researchers in collaboration with regulatory agencies to navigate all necessary regulatory pathways, at any stage of their research

 

Responsible Conduct of Research Training – helps researchers learn to effectively recognize issues and avoid research misconduct while informing them of the resources that are available to support research

 

Orientation to Research Fundamentals -three half-day sessions that cover the basic concepts (and beyond) required to successfully coordinate a research study

Career Development Series - sessions covering a variety of career development skills for advanced doctoral students and postdoctoral trainees

 

Health Sciences Research Series - research-specific workshops to meet the career development needs of postdoctoral trainees through senior investigators across the health sciences

 

Essential Professional Skills Series - an expanded set of sessions covering skills that all doctoral students and postdoctoral trainees should learn as an essential part of professional development

 

Pitt Alumni Connecting with Trainees (PACT) Speaker Series -showcases alumni who are succeeding in a wide array of career paths

 

Katz Business School Micro-Credential: Leading People in Organizations —this professional credential is comprised of four, 1.5-credit courses drawn from the KGSB Master of Business Administration program

 

Graduate Credit Grant Writing Course - course targeted at post-graduate PhD- and MD-level scientists interested in applying for NIH F and K series grants, other federal training grants (e.g., VA, DoD) or non-federal foundation grants

 

SPRINGBOARD Faculty Orientation Series - a yearlong, required orientation program for new faculty investigators within the first year of their faculty appointment in the schools of the health sciences

 

Mid-Career Momentum Series - provides practical tools, institutional resources, and peer perspectives to help mid-career faculty pursue research opportunities with greater clarity and impact 

 

Institute for Clinical Research Education (ICRE)

Master and Certificate programs in Clinical Research - geared toward clinicians who are pursuing a research career; provide the skills essential to design and conduct high-quality clinical and translational research

 

PhD and Certificate programs in Clinical & Translational Science - rigorous and advanced training program intended primarily for clinicians; aims to substantially enhance the capabilities of scientists to conduct high-quality clinical and translational research

 

Clinical and Translational Science Scholars Program (CTS KL2) - a highly competitive program for junior faculty that offers 75% salary support for up to 5 years to provide protected time to conduct preliminary research for a career development award

 

Clinical and Translational Science Fellowship (CTS TL1) - rigorous translational research training for pre-and postdoctoral trainees

 

Accelerating Discovery, Vision and Advancement in Career Excellence and Research Program (ADVANCER) - provides fellows, postdocs, and junior faculty with a solid foundation for a successful research career by offering skills training, networking, and mentoring

 

Accelerating Discovery, Vision and Advancement in Career Excellence and Research for Medical Students Program (ADVANCER II) - comprehensive skills training, networking, mentoring, and funding designed for medical students seeking to advance their training and abilities in health care research

 

MOMENTUM - leadership development and group coaching program promoting the wellbeing, professional fulfillment, and career advancement of research-intensive faculty in the health sciences who identify as Mothers of school-aged or younger children

 

Research Education in Advancing Investigative Careers for Housestaff and Fellows Program (REACH) - 8-week program teaches fundamental skills of clinical research to physicians in UPMC-affiliated residency and fellowship programs

Dean’s Faculty Advancement Award - competitive awards that provide $35,000 per year for two consecutive years to help support the research and career development of faculty members facing significant personal responsibilities

 

K Awardee to R Advancement Training (KARAT) - provides a broad range of career development activities and academic support including grant writing workshops, grant reviews, academic skills training, networking and peer support for K/CDA awardees in the Department of Medicine
